Buenos Airrrrres

(pun intended)

After leaving the cemetery in Buenos Aires we went for a couple of butterbeers just down the main avenue in Hogsmeade. But really, the Recoleta Cemetery looked like something straight out of Harry Potter.

Only the rich and famous (notable Argentinians including past presidents and heros like Eva Peron) can reserve a space in this prime burial place. We wandered through the old cemetery on our third day in the city in the company of thousands laid to rest in the countless, elaborate mausoleums and tombs. We meant to ask how much it costs to reserve a space as we passed a few new, modern tombs under construction, yet we were on a tight schedule.

Our five days in Buenos Aires has been the longest period of time spent in any one place so far, yet it was no where near an ideal amount of time spent here. The different barrios of the city were often drastically different from one another and warrent a few days to fully explore each one.

To cover every barrio we took one of the most informative tours of our lives. "On the left you have some very old trees in Buenos Aires, On the right is a park full of sculptures, behind that building is the cemetery, ahead of us are some 28 meter-high hills. They are the hills of Buenos Aires. 28 meters high." No wonder there we only 8 of us on a 50-person coach. Great commentary or not, the city and its parts were spectacular.

Some of our highlights include Tango lessons (we are now certified beginners), dinner and a Tango show, the Eva Peron (more commonly known as Evita) museum, La Boca barrio and its abundance of primary colors surrounding the Boca Juniors stadium (former home-pitch of Maradona), and of course the very late BA nightlife which commonly ended with sunrise on our way home.

Largest pinecone ever! Little did we know a guard was watching and laughing during our entire photo shoot.
